Guinness World Record™ Attempt

On April 11, 2010 we are attempting the Guinness World Record™ for most candles lit simultaneously in a single venue in an effort to shed light on the need for organ and tissue donors!

Lighting candles at the 2009 Vigil

The attempt is part of our annual Candlelight Vigil of Hope, Remembrance and Celebration. The event, typically held at the Lifeline of Ohio donor memorial, is moving to the West Plaza at the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 7 p.m. to accommodate the 1,300-1,500 attendees needed to break the record.

The vigil is designed to provide hope to those waiting for a chance to “shine on” with a lifesaving organ transplant, remembrance for those who “shine on” through the gifts they gave as organ and tissue donors, and celebration for transplant recipients who continue to “shine on” with a second chance at life.

The move to the statehouse gives us an opportunity to include more central Ohioans in this special event celebrating Donate Life Month, and encourage Ohioans to “shine on” as organ and tissue donors – we invite you all to join us!

This is a Great Day for me also. This is my 4 yr. Anniversary for my Kidney Transplant. I am doing well.I Thank My Donor Family and Donor with all my Heart. He will always be in our Hearts. Being a Donor is a wonderful thing it is the best gift anyone could ever give or receive. So many people could be saved and live a long Happy life if there were more Donors. Life is short and what a better way to give to the world is to keep someone else alive and well and a second chance at life. Many Thanks to Life Line Of Ohio for all the help and support for me and my Family.

Having worked at Grant Medical Center ICU for many years it is difficult to put into words the privilege it was to participate in the donation process with the donors themselves, the families, the LOOP staff and the transplant team. I plan to come to the vigil this year to celebrate with everyone else who comes.

This was the first year that my Father and I attended a LOOP sponsored event since the death of our Wife & Mother in 2007. The Memorial Service at the Fawcett Center and the Vigil at the Statehouse was moving, emotional, healing, beautiful and awe-inspiring. We are blessed and grateful to be part of something so meaningful and so vital. We were inspired by the stories we heard, ALL of the people involved at both events and humbled by hearing other peoples stories and journeys and will advocate on behalf of and in honor of our loved one and for all those whose lives have touched and been touched by Lifeline of Ohio and their affiliate partners and organizations. Thank-You and God Bless Us Everyone!

This was also my first time attending and I thought it was amazing. I enjoyed such inspirational speakers. My husmand was an Organ Recipient of a liver on Oct 20 2009. He was very lucky because he was listed on June 18 2009 so he was only on the list for 4 months. It was so touching to see so many people there either for themselves or loved ones. After our life changing experience with my husbund I too became an organ donor along with our 2 children. I couldnt imagine not wanting to help someone in need of any organs they can use of mine. I just want to say Thank You to whomever was my husbands donor was and Hope this persons family finds peace in knowing that he will take care and cherish this liver forever.
