‘Shine On’ Quilt Honors Heroes of Donation

Lifeline of Ohio’s 11th Donor Memorial Quilt panel, “Shine On,” was unveiled this week in celebration of Donate Life Month. It features squares from Ohioans who gave the “Gift of Life” through organ or tissue donation. Each square was handmade by the donor’s family.

This quilt, stitched together with love by volunteers Lois Neumeier and Joanne Nijak, commemorates our 25th anniversary and each square tells a unique story, honoring those who “shine on” through the gifts they gave.

I want to thank the volunteers who put together this quilt; it is beautiful and I hope to see it in person soon. I am honored to have been asked to particpate in making a square for my mother, Dolores Frederick. The love and care that Lifeline of Ohio shows families who have lost a loved one remains one of their most impressive attributes, second only to the fact they work so hard to save lives. You have my never-ending support.

Jeanne, you can reserve the quilt to be displayed at any public place. When it’s not out, we keep it on display at our office. It currently is out for Donate Life Month.

When I mailed in the square, I included a few words as to why I chose to design it as I did…can that be included in the SHINE ON quilt page. I do believe that Ms Hoover may have it. :o ) If not, that is okay, as a statement I made is already included in your literature.

When I saw the new quilt, there were tears of happiness and of course tears of sadness because our lovely daughter Katie was on the quilt. This wonderful tribute to her and to those who are with her honors them and their decision to help others. The families of these incredible individuals know their loved ones are heros and so will everyone who sees this beautiful quilt. Thank you.
