The American quilt has, for generations, captured the spirit and emotions of its creators. An art form born of necessity, the modern quilt has become a vehicle for interpreting our connection between the past and present.
The Donate Life community honors that connection through the creation of patchwork quilts. Hundreds of quilts have been made by organ procurement organizations across the country to memorialize the individuals who have passed on the “Gift of Life” to others through organ and tissue donation. For as long as I can remember, my dad loved motorcycles. He rode dirt bikes as a child and bought his first Harley in 2001. He was so proud of that bike! Whenever I traveled, I would make sure to buy him Harley shirts wherever I was.
My dad, Terry Kaufman, was definitely an amazing man. A husband of 28 years to my mom, Kathy, a father to three and grandfather to two, he was the rock in our family.
As much as he loved motorcycles, he loved his family more. He sold his beloved Harley so my mom could go back to college for a degree in elementary education. That’s just the kind of man he was. Read More »
“Rewarding.” After being asked to write a blog about my experience as an Intern at Lifeline of Ohio, a ton of thoughts raced through my head on where to begin: the great staff, awesome learning opportunities, working to support a great cause. I decided to make a quick list of everything I have done in my internship to organize my thoughts. While trying to sum up my experience, I noticed a pattern about all of my memories that came to mind. Everything about this internship has been overwhelmingly rewarding. I felt satisfied as I wrote down and underlined the word “Rewarding” at the bottom of the long, messy list of positive aspects of Lifeline of Ohio, a word that encompasses my entire experience here as an intern. Columbus, OH – Several individuals and institutions were honored Saturday, March 5, 2011 by Lifeline of Ohio for their roles in saving lives through organ and tissue donation. Fourteen awards were presented by the federally-designated organ procurement organization at the ninth-annual ceremony, “An Evening with the Stars,” in Columbus, Ohio. Each award was introduced by a local individual whose life has been touched by donation. Among the presenters were organ and tissue transplant recipients, a transplant candidate, and a donor family member. Read More »
Last fall, Donate Life Ohio implemented the “Season of Giving” Challenge to help increase the percentage of new Ohioans registering as organ, eye and tissue donors, resulting in more lives saved. Agencies from across the state were able to participate in the contest from October through December 2010.
