Teaming up for Donation – “The Pacemakers”

For the second year, Kate Pollard is leading a team from The Ohio State University’s College of Medicine in the Dash for Donation.

The third-year medical student became involved with organ and tissue donation when she started studying medicine in 2009.

“We had to find a community project during our first year and I was always interested in organ donation,” said Kate, “So I connected with Lifeline of Ohio.”

Kate was so moved by the cause that she continued to volunteer her time beyond the school requirements.  She has helped plan the Dash for Donation, worked at health fairs and donned a special suit to transform into Lifeline of Ohio’s mascot, Honey Bee.

“Lifeline of Ohio is a place where I feel like I’m actually making a difference.  Meeting people who received transplants makes me realize how important donation is,” said Kate.  “And, it’s fun!”

This year, Kate’s team - “The Pacemakers” – includes 45 members,  some of whom she has never met.

“It means a lot to me that so many people at OSU are willing to get involved.  The team isn’t just med students, there are staff members and friends participating too,” Kate said.

You can join “The Pacemakers” and thousands of other central Ohioans to celebrate life on July 9.  To register for the Dash for Donation or learn more, click here.
