Back to School with New Supplies
There are few things more exciting to me than new school supplies. A brand new notebook with blank pages and fancy pink pens are some of my favorite things about a new school year. Okay, maybe there are more exciting things, but I like school and office supplies, what can I say?
This year, I get to use something even more exciting then pink pens as I go back to school to educate students about organ and tissue donation! Our team created a new poster so the message about the importance of organ donation remains in classrooms long after our visits.
Most classrooms have posters encouraging students to make safe, healthy and responsible decisions regarding drugs, alcohol and cigarettes – many have stuck with me years after I graduated from high school. But, there aren’t posters about making an informed choice about organ and tissue donation. Until now!
We will be taking our posters with us throughout central and southeastern Ohio as we travel to speak to students. Each school year we have the opportunity to go into health, biology, anatomy and other classes and share information about organ and tissue donation. We start by explaining what it means to be an organ and tissue donor and then give students the facts about donation. If you watch some popular TV shows you surely have seen some misinformation about organ and tissue donation. I think it’s very important that we separate fact from fiction for high school students so they feel prepared to make an educated decision about donation at the BMV.
