This month, Donate Life Ohio is partnering with Kroger encourage Ohioans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors!
All 198 Kroger pharmacies in the state will offer a free Green Chair pin to anyone who stops by their pharmacy in April, while supplies last. The pins are part of the statewide call to action, “Don’t Let Another Chair Go Empty.” Every other day, a chair goes empty in Ohio as someone dies waiting for an organ transplant because there are not enough donors. A routine physical in 2004 revealed that I had an irregular heartbeat, a surprise to me! I immediately had an internal defibrillator implanted that to keep my heart in rhythm.

This is an exciting week in the organ donation community as it spans two month-long observations: Eye Donor Month and Donate Life Month.
Eye Donor Month is observed in March to draw attention to the incredible “Gift of Sight.” Each year, about 45,000 cornea transplants are made possible by people who said “yes” to donation. When you join the Ohio Donor Registry, you are declaring your intent to donate eyes, along with organs and tissues.

My son had a heart of gold, and he knew what mattered. He loved his family and everyone who knew him would remember him as kind and compassionate.
Needless to say, I wasn’t surprised when he signed up to be an organ and tissue donor the day he got his license. When the BMV clerk asked if he wanted to be a donor he looked at me and I told him, “Nate, that’s totally your call.” True to his nature, he said “yes” and I made sure he knew how proud I was that he made that decision.
