Lifeline of Ohio offers a variety of career opportunities in the following areas:

Clinical:

Individuals with a degree in biological sciences, registered nurse, physician's assistant, paramedicine, allied health, or work related experience in transplantation and/or organ and tissue procurement are employed as Procurement Coordinators.  These individuals are responsible for working with the hospital staff and the transplant surgeons to facilitate the organ and tissue donation process.

The family services coordinator remains at the hospital with the patient and family to ensure that all of the family’s wishes are carried out accordingly. The coordinator serves as support and a resource throughout the donation process.

Perfusion/Tissue Recovery Specialists are trained in tissue recovery and assisting in perfusing the organs for transplantation. Certification in a health care field (EMT, ST, MLT) or associate's degree in a health science field preferred.

The University of Toledo developed the nation's first and only program designed to prepare people to coordinate and oversee the organ donation and transplantation process. The program is designed to provide entry-level professional preparation for individuals who wish to become a human organ procurement coordinator.

For many donor families, the decision to donate is the first step in the healing process. Most families find comfort in knowing that part of their loved one will live on in someone else and at the same time will save or enhance the lives of others.

Education:

Educating people about organ and tissue donation is carried out by a variety of staff at Lifeline of Ohio. The Hospital Relations staff is dedicated to educating hospital staff and physicians about their role in the donation process. The Community Education staff is dedicated to educating the public about organ and tissue donation. The Donor Family Support Coordinator works with the donor families following the donation process to answer any questions as well as facilitate on-going relationships to promote donation.

Administrative Support Staff:

The clinical staff's ability to facilitate the donation process is made possible through the efforts of the administrative support staff. Administrative assistance, information technology, financial services, quality improvement, human resources, and public relations all have critical roles in making the services of Lifeline of Ohio available to the communities we serve.
