The compassionate generosity of a stranger is a legacy that continues today in Logan who received a life-saving liver and small intestine transplant.
Anyone can give the Gift of Life! It is important to remember that individuals should not rule themselves out as potential donors. Medical criteria for donation varies and medical professionals will be able to determine exactly what is suitable for donation at the time of death.
The Ohio Donor Registry was established by the Ohio State Legislature to ensure that an individual's wish to be a donor is known and carried out. Making the commitment to be an organ and tissue donor is a simple process.
If you want to become a donor:
1. Register your decision in the Ohio Donor Registry
- by registering online today. (You will need a valid Ohio driver's license or state identification card.)
OR
- by filling out and mailing in a
Donor Registry Enrollment Form
OR
- by saying "yes" when you visit the BMV office to receive or renew your driver's license or state identification card
2. Tell your family about your decision
West Virginia:
Individuals can register their decision to be a donor online or when receiving or renewing their West Virginia driver's license at the DMV. Placing your name in the West Virginia Donor Registry is a legal declaration of your permission to recover organs and tissue following your death. Persons under 18 years of age can make a declaration of intent to become a donor with the permission of their parent or guardian. After registering your decision, it is also important to share your decision with your family so they can help honor your wishes.
Outside of Ohio or West Virginia:
If you are not an Ohio or West Virginia resident, please visit the Donate Life America website to learn how to register as an organ and tissue donor in your state.
