West Virginia Launches Online Donor Registry
6/2/08 -- West Virginians can now go online to sign up as organ, eye and tissue donors. Previously, residents could only sign up at a state Division of Motor Vehicles office. Anyone can add the designation by entering their driver's license-photo ID number, date of birth and the last four digits of their Social Security number.
DMV Commissioner Joseph Cicchirillo says only 37 percent of registered drivers in the state are now signed up as donors. 200 West Virginians currently await a life-saving organ transplant.
The website, https://donatelife.wv.gov/, is a partnership of the DMV, Lifeline of Ohio, the Center for Organ Recovery and Education and Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates.
