Story Ideas
The Gift of Life. In nearly every community there is an individual whose life has been touched in some dramatic way by organ or tissue donation. Their story puts a face to the staggering statistics.
- Talk to an organ recipient who has been literally given a second chance at life.
- Talk to a donor family for whom donation was the only bright spot in the dark days of their loss.
- Talk to a tissue recipient whose transplant restored mobility and opened up a world of possibility, independence and gratitude.
- Talk to a widow or widower whose spouse died because an organ did not become available in time for a transplant.
- Talk to an individual whose future lies in the hands of a stranger while they wait for a transplant.
One Person Can Make a Difference. One organ donor has the potential to save seven lives through organ donation and improve the quality of life for more than 50 others through tissue donation. Explore the difference one person can make in helping others through donation and how someone can ensure the wish to become a donor will be honored.
Each One Teach One. Throughout Central and Southeastern Ohio and Wood and Hancock Counties, W.Va., there are hundreds people from all walks of life who have joined Lifeline of Ohio's crusade to increase awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation. They are recipients, donor family members, living organ donors, individuals waiting for a transplant, and medical professionals. Find out what these volunteers are doing in your community, and why they feel compelled to do it.
The Memory Quilt. The Lifeline of Ohio Donor Family Quilt is a visual testament to the human spirit that embodies organ and tissue donation. Each unique "memory square" on the quilt was created by family members to honor their loved one who, in death, passed on the "gift of life" to others. The quilt is an on-going project of Lifeline of Ohio. Since 1998, nearly 350 families have contributed "memory squares." The quilt panels travel throughout the Lifeline of Ohio service area to health fairs, schools, hospitals, libraries, quilt shows, etc. promoting the human aspect of donation that is often overlooked amid the drama and technology of transplantation. Find out if a local individual is featured on the quilt or if a quilt will be in your area.
