The Ohio State University Wins the 2009 Buckeye-Wolverine Challenge For Life!
Across the state of Ohio, from September 1st-November 19th, 63,806 Ohioans registered their new decision to be an organ, eye, and tissue donors. These new registrations helped to contribute to the fourth victory in a row in the 2009 Buckeye-Wolverine Challenge for Life! Michigan registered 52,678 new registrations during the same time period.
“We are extremely excited to see that our hard work and continued efforts in saving lives has once again paid off. This is a true example of how we can come together as competing universities and make a real impact ,” shared Mark Cortez, a member of the Ohio State Chapter of Students for Organ Donation group. Starting in September, The Challenge was promoted across the state on every Ohio State Campus, in the Student Health Centers, in the OSU Medical Center, and through a large networking system of newsletters and emails throughout the university. The Challenge was also promoted at American Red Cross blood drives across the Ohio State main campus and through the OSU Department of Athletics.
Supported by Lifeline of Ohio, The Buckeyes for Life Committee, and Students for Organ Donation, the Challenge started four years ago when the University of Michigan initiated the community based competition to see which university could register the most organ, eye, and tissue donors. Lifeline of Ohio, the Buckeyes For Life Committee and The Ohio State University Chapter of Students For Organ Donation would like to thank all Ohioans who helped The Ohio State University to retain the Buckeye-Wolverine Challenge For Life trophy! Thank you for being a Buckeye For Life and Go Bucks!
