A comforting touch in times of need

The Shawls of Support Program honors our organ, eye and tissue donors by providing their families with the gift of a handmade shawl to comfort them in their time of loss. The shawls are made by Lifeline of Ohio Donate Life Ambassadors, including transplant recipients, donor family members and people in the community.

Since the inception of this group, more than 4,000 shawls have been provided to our donor families. For more information or to get involved, contact us.

Shawls of Support groups

We are always looking for individuals to join our Shawls for Support group and/or to be empowered to create shawls at your leisure to contribute to the program. For more information please contact Molly Craig at mcraig@lifelineofohio.org.

Day Group The Shawls of Support day group typically meets the second Tuesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Evening Group Our evening group sessions are held on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In-person meetings have temporarily been suspended.
December Please note that the Shawls of Support group does not host a meeting in December.

Create a shawl

The Shawls of Support Program is seeking rectangle or triangle-shaped shawls that can be given to our donor families. Below are a few specific shawl requests.

Dimensions
Rectangle: 24-26” wide by 60” long
Triangle: No smaller than 60” wide

The shawls don’t have to be these exact measurements; however, we ask that they are close to these general dimensions.

Color
While we love all colors, we know that softer, more muted colors provide extra comfort during a family’s most difficult moments.

Patterns
Feel free to use any pattern of your choice. We’ve linked several example patterns to use as a reference.

Letter from a grateful shawl recipient

Dear Lifeline of Ohio,

I want to thank you for the beautiful shawl you sent me. I truly appreciate you helping to honor my beloved husband, Timothy. I have wrapped that shawl around me on many sleepless nights. It has warmed and comforted me at my worst times. I’m so happy and honored that my husband was able to give what he could to make others’ lives better. God bless all of you and may you continue to provide peace, hope, and healing for others.

Sincerely,

Jeaniene
