Looks Can Be Deceiving

By Rob West, Liver Recipient

Have you ever asked yourself how you would do things differently if you were given a second chance? This was something I never asked until about two years ago but now I am living out the answer to that question. Read More »

Disney’s “Shout Out” to Donation

My six-year-old daughter LOVES all of the Disney shows aimed at tweens.  One of them is “Shake It Up,” about two girls who dance on a kids’ TV show.  Normally, I would make up a million excuses to avoid sitting through one of these shows, but a few days ago, I didn’t.  Read More »

Make a Resolution to Save Lives

We have the best intentions to do more and be better when a new year approaches.  We make grand plans: lose weight, take on that home renovation or give back to the community.  Often, we struggle to find ways to follow through.

The same goes for registering as an organ and tissue donor.  More than 94 percent of Ohioans think that donation is a good thing, but only about 54 percent have taken the steps to register.  Read More »

109,299 Reasons to Be a Donor

Every now and then I try to step outside of my day-to-day duties as a communications team member at Lifeline of Ohio to attend health fairs with our volunteers. It’s a great way to connect directly with the community we serve and hear what people have to say about donation.

Veronica Wende: Lifeline of Ohio Ambassador

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”  This song reminds me how important it is to let your light “Shine On” by becoming a registered organ and tissue donor. Through my own experiences, I know that organ and tissue donation is a very important topic to be discussed for Americans of all ages.  I find it amazing how one donor can help so many. Read More »

Tuesday’s Tale: The Glass is Half Full

 By Jeff Longwell, kidney/pancreas recipient

Ah, Chicken Pox. This not-so-thrilling experience as a child may be considered a “rite of passage” to some. Itchy red pox that you are forbidden to scratch, the smell of calamine lotion and a few extra days off school; these are things that we all may be able to recall as a childhood memory. For me, this experience ended up being something no one expected. Read More »

The Most Common Myth

From time to time, staff members in the Communications department at Lifeline of Ohio work health fairs to interact with the public in our service area and provide volunteers with on-the-job mentoring.

Today, my colleage Lauren and I went to the Nestle plant in Marysville to talk about donation and register Ohioans in the Donor Registry.  Our table was set up in a beautiful facility and we were right across from the foot massage table, so attendees were feeling good by the time they reached our booth!
